Ossett residents – Electric scooters and motorbikes stolen from sheds and garages. |
||
|
Good afternoon
We want to make residents aware of an increase in sheds and garages being broken into across Ossett over the past 7 days. These occurred on Wesley Street, Mapplewell Drive, Towngate and Bridle Lane.
Thieves are specifically targeting electric scooters and motorbikes.
There have been reports of four suspects seen at some of the incidents, often wearing balaclavas and hoods. Most of the break-ins have taken place overnight.
Investigations are ongoing.
Think about security marking your scooters and motorbikes – marking them makes it harder for criminals to sell on, therefore less desirable to steal in the first place. Further information can be found on Cycle Crime Prevention and Cycle Safety | West Yorkshire Police We often hold bike marking events across the district, this is a free service. Keep a look out on our social media pages for dates and locations.
Use a closed shackle padlock to secure the shed door - this type of padlock is designed to expose as little of the shackle as possible making it more difficult to attack with bolt cutters and saws. If you have any information, CCTV or video doorbell footage that may help: Call the police on 101 Report online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it Or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
Please share to raise awareness.
